Welcome to
Amber Grace

InJohn chapter 10 of the Bible, Jesus offers Himself as the gateway to an Abundant Life. Amber Grace holds this truth as both an invitation and a promise to ALL people – for a future life in heaven and a present life now – to provide a life rich with purpose, joy, fulfillment and hope, rooted in community with others.

At Amber Grace, we work to build a heaven-inspired community, thoughtfully tailored for adults with mild Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). A place for those that need a little support to embrace all life has to offer. A community providing safety, love, and opportunity. Where purpose is found and relationships are cultivated, building lives of interdependence, forged in service to one another.

And don’t forget FUN! So. Much. Fun! Amber Grace believes an Abundant Life embodies the gift of enjoyment individually as well as within community. Creating laughter, joy, genuine smiles, and fun for our Neighbors is a valued part of the Amber Grace experience.

Our Mission

To cultivate a Christ-led Abundant Life for every Neighbor, their Families, and the Communities we serve.

Our Story

In October of 1991, Amber was born into the Turner family. The youngest of four, Amber enjoyed the love and support of two older sisters and one older brother. Our family was also blessed by the support of a large extended family and an amazing network of friends and church family. Amber truly made our family special, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! As her parents, we (David and Debbie) embraced the opportunity of raising a child born with Down Syndrome and began the process of using all the available intervention services to aid in Amber’s development. If you are intimately involved in the life of a special needs friend or family member, you know these were busy years indeed.

Upon the completion of her high school years, Amber, just like her siblings, desired to go to college. Blessed to discover Shepherds College, she was able to pursue her lifelong dream of studying Culinary Arts. As she nears the completion of her studies at Shepherds College, Amber continues to have the same dreams as her siblings – a life of independent living and opportunity.

She is our why and inspiration for building Amber Grace Community. We desire to build a place for Amber and others with similar special needs, to live with safe, supported independence while providing opportunities for ongoing holistic growth (spiritual, physical, emotional, social, vocational) and post secondary opportunities to work, serve, and give back to their community.

Our Difference

One of Amber Grace's distinguishing features is our commitment to discovering each individual’s strengths and pairing them with an opportunity for service and/or employment. Everyone has a role to play in our community! I need you, and you need me is the key to our core belief in interdependence along with supported independent living. Discovering our Neighbors’ strengths enables them to enjoy a world of post secondary opportunities centered around their individual likes and gifts.

Another feature of our community is the loving, family-style nature of Amber Grace houses, meals, and support systems. Each of the eight houses are a family, consisting of six Neighbors and one Support Family. They do life together, sharing evening meals, neighborhood outings, and worship services as a family.
